Psalm 93

Psalm 93
The Glory of Jehovah, Reigning in Judgment

Psalm 93. This is another orphan Psalm, without a title or attribution. Most likely David is the author, and the first words of v.1 serve as a title; Jehovah reigns. This Psalm expresses the glory of Jehovah reigning in the Millennium.

PSALM 93
1 Jehovah reigneth, he hath clothed himself with majesty: Jehovah hath clothed himself, he hath girded himself with strength; yea, the world is established, it shall not be moved.
2 Thy throne is established of old; thou art from eternity.
3 The floods lifted up, O Jehovah, the floods lifted up their voice; the floods lifted up their roaring waves.
4 Jehovah on high is mightier than the voices of many waters, than the mighty breakers of the sea.
5 Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thy house, O Jehovah, for ever.

vv.1-5 The Glory of Jehovah, Reigning in Judgment. In v.1 we have the stupendous truth, paramount in the Millennium, that Jehovah reigns. He has “clothed himself with majesty… he hath girded himself with strength”. The reign of Christ will have the effect of establishing the world, and introducing an era of peace and stability. While the state of the world will then be quite new and different, the authority of its rule is not new; “Thy throne is established of old; thou art from eternity” (v.2). The “floods” of ungodly men that lifted themselves up against Christ (Psa. 2), the confederacies of men, the masses of fallen humanity that willingly fell under the spell of Satan, like the “roaring waves” and “mighty breakers of the sea” in their strength, are broken by the power of Jehovah on high! His reign is universal and undisputed. But then we have the character of His reign in v.5; “Thy testimonies are very sure”. Truth will abound when Jehovah reigns, in a world that has suffered from corruption since the fall of man. But the character of Jehovah’s house, that which will bear His name in a special way, is holiness. The house takes its character from one whose house it is; “holiness becometh thy house, O Jehovah, for ever”. What an important principle to understand regarding the house of God. This ought to be true of the house of God at all times, but it will be fulfilled in the Millennium!
